In a remarkable display of skill and perseverance, Rory McIlroy has clinched the title at the US Masters held in Augusta, marking a significant milestone in his career. At the age of 35, McIlroy made history as the first European golfer to achieve a career Grand Slam, having previously secured victories in the British Open, US Open, and PGA Championship.

The final round was a dramatic affair, with McIlroy initially leading the tournament but faltering towards the end. He finished the final round with a score of 73, his weakest of the tournament. Meanwhile, English golfer Justin Rose surged ahead, posting an impressive score of 66 on the last day, bringing both competitors to a tie with a total of 277 strokes, eleven under par.

To determine the champion, a playoff was required. This took place on the 18th hole, where both players demonstrated their skills with powerful drives. However, the pivotal moment came on the green. Rose, facing a longer putt than McIlroy, narrowly missed, allowing McIlroy to secure the victory with a steady performance despite his earlier missteps.

As a result of this triumph, McIlroy not only donned the prestigious green jacket but also took home a prize of $4.2 million, contributing to the tournament's impressive total purse of $21 million.

Completing the top three, American golfer Patrick Reed finished in third place with a score of nine under par. Bryson DeChambeau, who was considered a significant contender going into the final round, struggled and dropped to fifth place after scoring a disappointing 75. Scottie Scheffler, ranked first in the world, secured fourth place in the tournament.

This victory adds to McIlroy's already illustrious career and solidifies his status as one of the best golfers in the history of the sport. His ability to rebound from pressure situations, especially in high-stakes tournaments like the Masters, showcases his resilience and skill on the course.
