Investigations Underway Following Fatal Light Aircraft Crash at Völtendorf Airfield

Authorities are conducting thorough investigations following a tragic accident involving a light aircraft at Völtendorf Airfield. The incident occurred shortly before 4:00 PM when a two-seat aircraft, reportedly a glider tug, crashed while attempting to land from the west. The aircraft subsequently caught fire upon impact.

The pilot, a 76-year-old resident of St. Pölten, was the sole occupant of the aircraft. Emergency services responded immediately to the scene, which was also attended by the crime scene investigation unit from the Lower Austria State Criminal Police and the Aircraft Accident Commission.

As the investigation progresses, police spokesperson Stefan Loidl confirmed that the pilot's body has been released and that an autopsy has not been deemed necessary. This decision indicates that the authorities do not suspect foul play in the unfortunate incident.

Völtendorf Airfield is situated southwest of the capital city of Lower Austria, St. Pölten, and is home to the St. Pölten Flying Club. The airfield, located directly off Highway B39, serves as a hub for local aviation enthusiasts.
