International Military Exercise 'TRIAS25' Commences in Austria

Sun 13th Apr, 2025

From April 14 to May 9, 2025, the Truppenübungsplatz Allentsteig in Lower Austria will host the multinational military exercise known as 'TRIAS25.' This event will see the participation of troops from Switzerland, Germany, and Austria, with aims to enhance operational readiness through joint training.

The first week of the exercise will focus on troop deployment, while the final week will involve the demobilization and return of forces to their respective home bases. Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner emphasized the significance of multinational exercises, stating they provide invaluable opportunities for participants to learn each other's operational techniques. The Allentsteig training area, equipped with a robust infrastructure, is suitable for practicing complex scenarios, including live-fire exercises.

Approximately 950 Swiss soldiers, 200 Austrian troops, and 150 German forces will take part in the exercise. The training will involve various military assets, including off-road vehicles, combat tanks, and drones. The extensive facilities at Allentsteig allow for comprehensive training with mechanized units.

Conducted within the framework of the D-A-CH cooperation format, 'TRIAS25' represents a pivotal step in enhancing military capabilities and fostering synergies among the participating forces. The ability to collaborate with other nations' armed forces in 2025 will be bolstered by logistics efforts, including contributions to the European Union Battle Group 2025.

Intensive collaboration exists between the involved countries, with Switzerland alone engaging in 150 joint projects governed by 13 bilateral agreements. In April 2024, an Austrian contingent participated in the international cyber exercise 'Locked Shields 24' in Switzerland. The longstanding partnership with the German Bundeswehr has led to numerous joint training sessions, especially in preparation for international missions, such as the recent exercises conducted in Germany in late 2024.
