Authorities have identified a deceased individual as a primary suspect in the case concerning the discovery of a decaying corpse in Hall in Tirol, Austria. The body, identified as that of a 30-year-old man from Innsbruck, was found in the garden of a residence at the end of January 2025. The Tyrolean Criminal Investigation Department has pointed to a 28-year-old, who had already passed away, as the alleged perpetrator. Evidence gathered during the investigation, including witness statements and circumstantial evidence from the suspect's acquaintances, has led to this conclusion.
The suspicion against the deceased man was further bolstered by his previous threats against the victim, including a bomb threat made via the emergency hotline in April 2024. The suspect, a stateless individual, was discovered dead in his apartment in December 2024, with investigations ruling out any foul play in his death. The 30-year-old victim had been reported missing since the autumn of the previous year, with his body being located by a resident who was searching for a lost cat in an inaccessible part of the garden. The exact duration of time the body had been there remains unclear, but it is believed that the victim had been deceased for several months.
Despite the identification of the 28-year-old as the suspected assailant, police officials have indicated that the investigation is still ongoing and has not reached a definitive conclusion. In addition to the murder case, the 28-year-old is also implicated in a bank robbery that took place on October 25, 2024, in Innsbruck. During this incident, a masked and armed individual entered a bank branch in the Reichenau district, threatening staff before fleeing with stolen cash. A combination of witness accounts and forensic evidence has linked the deceased suspect to this crime.
In a related development, police have announced the arrest of a 22-year-old man, who is alleged to have robbed a bank in Kufstein on November 28, 2024. This individual reportedly entered the bank while armed and masked, escaping in a small white van that was later captured on surveillance cameras. After thorough investigations and cooperation with German authorities, the suspect was identified and subsequently confessed to the crime, attributing his actions to financial difficulties. He has since been remanded in custody at the Innsbruck correctional facility.
Recent times have seen a worrying increase in the number of bank robberies in Tirol, with authorities confirming that all twelve incidents reported since late November 2023 have now been resolved. The police have apprehended suspects in connection with these cases, including a duo believed to be responsible for five separate robberies across Kufstein and Innsbruck. This string of criminal activity has underscored the need for heightened security measures in the region.
