Attempted Robbery: Two Teens Assault Student in Amstetten

Fri 11th Apr, 2025

In a disturbing incident on the way home from school, two unidentified assailants targeted a 12-year-old student in Amstetten, specifically on Anzengruberstraße. The attackers positioned themselves strategically, with one blocking the boy's path while the other approached from behind, demanding his mobile phone. When the victim hesitated to comply, one of the attackers attempted to choke him from behind, while the other struck him in the face. The force of the assault caused the boy to fall to the ground, allowing the robbers to seize his phone.

Afterward, the assailants initially allowed the boy to leave but then pursued him, insisting on the phone's security code. Demonstrating remarkable bravery, the young student refused to divulge the information. In an unexpected turn, one of the attackers returned the phone and even apologized, returning the boy's lost earPods before letting him go.

Earlier the same day, around 1:20 PM, it appears that the same duo had attempted to rob a 14-year-old from Euratsfeld on Eggersdorfer Straße. They confronted him, grabbing his sweater and delivering a punch to his face. However, as the victim had neither a mobile phone nor money, the attackers soon released him.

Later in the afternoon, at approximately 2:35 PM, a 14-year-old from Hausmening was approached at the bus station by the same pair. They initially asked for directions but then lured him into a parking garage under false pretenses, where they demanded his phone and cash. One of the assailants brandished a small knife, though he did not directly threaten the victim with it. The 14-year-old refused to hand over his belongings and managed to escape. However, as he shouted at the attackers, they chased him down, physically assaulting him until an adult intervened, allowing the boy to break free.

Law enforcement has received reports on all three incidents, and investigations by Amstetten's criminal division are underway. In response to these troubling events, the Amstetten Gymnasium has issued a letter to parents urging vigilance and prompting them to report any similar occurrences or suspicions to school authorities or the police, noting that students from other schools may also be at risk.

Authorities advise students to travel in pairs on their way to and from school, especially during this Easter vacation period.
