After the second round of failed salary negotiations for employees of the municipalities and federal government, talks were postponed on Monday, with Verdi calling for warning strikes on Wednesday in Munich, reported TZ.

All 18 000 employees of the public service "are called for a one day work stoppage," said  Munich-based head of Verdi, Henry Birner.

With a one day strike, the union leaders hope to make the negotiators at the next meeting on 11th February to be more receptive to the demands for a salary increase of five percent.  Whether the department of street-lighting will go on strike from 7am until 5pm is still not clear.  But the city child-care facilities will join the strike. Parents whose children are taken care of in city facilities must find an alternative tomorrow.

The most important services affected are:

Nurseries, day care centers and cooperative organizations 7am - 5pm

Utilities 6am-12noon

Street cleaning 2pm - 10pm. Should there be heavy snow, the winter services team might be exempted from the strike call.

Stà¤dtisches Klinikum München GmbH - all places from 6.30 - 10pm

Isar-Amper-Klinikum München-Ost Munich 6-22, Münchenstift 6 - 10pm

Traffic control 8.30 - 11.30pm

Public Library in Gasteig, 9 - 7pmk

The strike will be accompanied by a demonstration, which starts at 10.15am in front of the Communal Employer Association (Hermann-Lingg-Strasse). The municipal utility workers (not the MVG!) meet at 10am in front of the SWM office.
