Travelers are facing significant disruptions in and out of Austria this Saturday as a nationwide strike in Italy causes severe delays in international travel, impacting routes to Greece and Croatia. Key highways in Austria, including A2, A9, A10, and A13, are experiencing extensive traffic jams.
A2 South Motorway: A major accident involving three trucks has resulted in a complete closure in the Reigersdorf area heading towards Vienna. Recovery operations are underway, and a detour has been established from Klagenfurt Airport. Despite these measures, significant traffic congestion and delays persist.
A9 Pyhrn Motorway: The Gleinalm Tunnel is closed due to a traffic incident, leading to a total blockage of the traffic lane towards Graz. A large detour has been put in place; however, drivers should expect notable delays throughout the entire stretch.
A10 Tauern Motorway: Stretches between Golling and Werfen are experiencing delays of up to two hours due to extensive roadwork in both directions, affecting southbound traffic as well as return travel.
A13 Brenner Motorway: The situation has improved for outbound traffic towards Italy, which previously faced delays of up to 1.5 hours between Schönberg toll station and the Brenner border. Current delays are now reduced to approximately 15 minutes.
Impact of the Italian Strike: The ongoing strike in the Italian transport sector has been extended for an additional 24 hours and affects personnel across air, rail, and ferry services. This has resulted in substantial cancellations and delays not only within Italy but also across neighboring countries.
Travelers to Greece and Croatia are particularly affected as many ferry and flight connections rely on Italian hubs such as Venice, Bari, Ancona, and Rome. Moreover, international rail services through Northern Italy have been largely suspended or severely limited.
The authorities are urging travelers to check the status of their journeys directly with airlines, rail companies, and ferry operators before departure to avoid further inconveniences.
