A 20-year-old driver holding a probationary license from the Villach-Land district was involved in a police chase in Klagenfurt during the early hours of Saturday morning. The incident escalated when the driver, who was found to be slightly under the influence of alcohol, ignored police signals and attempted to evade arrest.

At approximately 12:30 AM, officers from the highway police initiated traffic checks in the Klagenfurt area. The young driver disregarded their stopping commands, prompting the police to pursue him. The pursuit quickly escalated as the driver accelerated to dangerous speeds.

In an effort to escape, the driver attempted to turn into a forest road but failed to notice a concrete barrier in his path. The vehicle collided with the barrier, resulting in significant damage and rendering the car a total loss. Fortunately, the driver and his two passengers were unharmed in the accident.

The police have announced that the driver will face charges related to his actions during the chase, particularly given his probationary status and the presence of alcohol. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding reckless driving and the importance of adhering to traffic laws, especially for newly licensed drivers.

Authorities continue to stress the dangers of driving under the influence and encourage all drivers to prioritize safety on the roads. The incident serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with driving privileges, particularly for those who are still in the early stages of their driving journey.
