Tue 29th Apr, 2025

On April 29, 2025, Norbert Walter was officially appointed as the Vice President of the Austrian Farmers' Chamber (LK Österreich) following a unanimous vote by the leadership. Walter, who also serves as the President of the Vienna Farmers' Chamber, takes over this role from Franz Titschenbacher, the former President of LK Steiermark, who has stepped down from his official duties.

The current leadership of LK Österreich now includes President Josef Moosbrugger from Vorarlberg, alongside Walter, Irene Neumann-Hartberger, the Federal Farmers' Chairwoman, and Johannes Schmuckenschlager, President of LK Niederösterreich, as Vice Presidents.

Walter's extensive background in agriculture and forestry, combined with his experience as a passionate winemaker, positions him as a key figure in promoting cooperation across various sectors. His ability to connect with stakeholders from agriculture, business, politics, and society makes him a valuable asset to the organization. Moosbrugger emphasized Walter's qualifications and commitment to serving the interests of farmers during the announcement of his election.

Born in 1968 in Tyrol, Norbert Walter studied at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna and later completed a university course in public relations. He began his professional career in 1997 as a consultant for the ÖVP parliamentary group and has held various roles, including serving as the State Secretary of the ÖVP in Vienna and as a member of the Vienna State Parliament, City Council, and Municipal Council.

In 2012, he became the Director of the Vienna Farmers' Association, a position he held until 2021. Since 2016, Walter has also served as the State Hunting Master in Vienna. After being elected as Vice President of the Vienna Farmers' Chamber in 2018 and the President of the organization in April 2023, his recent election to the Vice Presidency of LK Österreich marks another significant milestone in his career.

Walter's leadership is anticipated to enhance the collaboration between different regions and sectors within the agricultural community, fostering a united front in addressing the challenges and opportunities facing farmers today.
