On June 2, 2025, significant construction work commenced on the approved route for the Wiener Neustadt ring road. This project is deemed crucial for alleviating traffic congestion in the area. The Deputy Governor of Lower Austria, Udo Landbauer, emphasized the importance of this initiative, which has been allocated an investment of approximately 45 million euros by the Lower Austrian government.
Landbauer stated that this investment aims to enhance infrastructure, improve mobility, increase traffic safety, and prioritize the quality of life for residents in the region. This day is particularly significant for the residents of Nestroy and Grazer Street, who have long awaited this development.
Construction aims to create a full ring road around Wiener Neustadt, linking the S4 exit at Neudörfler Street with connections to B21b and B60/Pottendorfer Street. The initial phase of construction focuses on preparing the construction site from the north. To minimize disruption to residents, a temporary construction road will be established along the future roadway, keeping construction traffic away from residential and urban areas. This includes the erection of two temporary bridges to span the Warme Fischa and Fischa-Mühlbach rivers.
In recent weeks, preparatory work has involved relocating existing utilities and infrastructure to align with the future road layout. This includes adjustments to electrical, water, and telecommunications lines, as well as modifications to the drainage and sewage systems to ensure reliable service during and after construction.
The construction project is being managed by the general contractor STRABAG AG, which has extensive local experience, having previously contributed to the successful completion of the B60 link project. The operational management of the project will be coordinated from the Wiener Neustadt location, facilitating a smooth implementation process. Additionally, independent oversight will be provided to ensure that the project adheres to environmental regulations and approvals.
The commencement of these construction efforts marks the beginning of the Wiener Neustadt ring road project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2027. The roadworks will be executed by the road service department of the Lower Austria government.
