Huawei Digital Power Showcases Innovative Solutions at Intersolar Europe

Huawei Digital Power is making waves at the Intersolar Europe 2025 event, held from May 7 to May 9 in Munich, by presenting its cutting-edge smart photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage system (ESS) solutions designed for a variety of grid formation scenarios. These advanced technologies are poised to expedite the establishment of new power supply systems and promote the high-quality development of the global renewable energy sector.

The global challenges of achieving carbon neutrality and transitioning to renewable energy necessitate the development of new power supply systems. Such systems will increase the consumption of renewable energy and enhance the use of power electronic devices across generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption stages. New energy systems are designed to integrate both energy and information flows. The concept of "Bit-managed Watt"--where energy flows are controlled by information flows--enables flexible distribution, security, reliability, and stable grid formation control, making them essential in modern energy management.

In utility scenarios, Huawei's Smart String Grid Forming ESS offers robust grid formation capabilities across all circumstances, ensuring cell-to-grid safety, optimal lifecycle investment, and complete digital connectivity. This system supports stable grid formation under varying states of charge (SOC) and short-circuit ratios (SCR) at all times, providing resilience and future-proofing through continuous technological advancement.

On the generation side, the solution can be tailored to any grid, facilitating stable power transmission. Its voltage, frequency, and power angle regulation capabilities are comparable to those of synchronous condensers. The grid-forming ESS is characterized by ease of maintenance and reduced lifecycle costs.

For transmission and distribution applications, this solution stabilizes voltage and frequency, supports black start capabilities, and mitigates the effects of weak power supply in load centers. As the power market evolves from energy and capacity markets to ancillary service markets--including reactive power and inertia services--the Smart String Grid Forming ESS from Huawei adapts to meet customer needs, offering a versatile platform for various business models and supporting flexible advancements.

On the consumer side, seamless switching and stable off-grid operation enable microgrids powered entirely by renewable energy sources. A hierarchical control system is crucial for microgrid functionality, striking an optimal balance between cost efficiency and stability. Huawei's microgrid control system incorporates time-based management and functional implementation, divided into three tiers: stable grid-forming control, efficient coordinated control, and intelligent optimized dispatching. This system provides comprehensive technical support for a low-carbon and efficient energy transition across industries, including mining.

Huawei's 215 kWh Smart Hybrid Cooling ESS is designed for sustainable operation in commercial and industrial settings, offering proactive safety, top-tier quality, and enhanced profitability. The proactive safety strategy incorporates a "Cell-to-Consumption (C2C) Dual-Link Safety Architecture," focusing on the electrical and thermal safety of connections between the cell, pack, system, and consumption points. This ESS is certified to UL 9540A, VDE-AR-E 2510, and CE standards, and has achieved the highest safety certification (L3) from TÜV Rheinland.

In terms of quality, the ESS operates reliably under extreme conditions, maintaining performance at temperatures up to 50 °C and altitudes of 4000 m. Its unique packaging optimization, updated to version 2.0, achieves an efficiency of 91.3% and a depth of discharge of 100%, ensuring greater usable energy throughout its lifecycle.

Additionally, the newly launched Home Energy Management Solution 6.0 encompasses eco-friendly electricity generation and intelligent energy consumption, establishing leadership in green energy solutions for residential buildings. This offering includes new products like the ESS LUNA S1-7kWh, featuring industry-leading long-term warranties, over 40% more usable energy than the average in its class, and customizable capacity expansion up to 252 kWh. It is also adaptable for various small-scale commercial, industrial, and residential scenarios. Visitors to Huawei's residential exhibit can witness firsthand the reliability and high quality of these products under extreme conditions, including immersion in 40 cm of water, exposure to a 5-ton pressure, and extreme weather elements.
