Former Sports Teacher Suspected of New Sexual Offenses - Allegedly Filmed 160 Students

A former sports teacher in Haninge, south of Stockholm, is under investigation for new allegations of sexual offenses, following an earlier conviction for similar crimes. The inquiry was initiated approximately one year ago and has revealed that around 160 individuals, all former students, may have been secretly filmed by the accused over a span of more than a decade, starting from 2006.

The investigation came to light when police examined seized materials, identifying numerous potential victims from two schools. Sadly, many of the alleged offenses have been barred from prosecution due to the time elapsed since their occurrence. Furthermore, footage recorded between 2014 and 2016 is of such poor quality that it lacks identifiable features.

According to the prosecution, all identified individuals will receive notifications from the police in the coming days, regardless of whether the offenses are subject to prosecution. Victims whose cases are still actionable are being encouraged to participate in interviews to confirm their identities, which is a voluntary process aimed at facilitating potential legal action.

The individual in question, a man in his 50s, has previously worked at several schools in the Stockholm area. He had been sentenced to three and a half years in prison in May 2024 for serious offenses, including unlawful photography, severe child pornography violations, and sexual harassment, stemming from incidents where he recorded young girls changing clothes.

In the earlier case, 110 girls, aged between 5 and 10 at the time of the offenses, were awarded compensations ranging from 5,000 to 35,000 Swedish Krona each. The investigation into his wrongdoing began during a school trip in 2022, where a colleague observed him filming several students with his mobile device while they were changing.

The current investigation identifies an additional 160 former students who were previously unassociated with the earlier case. The evidence includes materials from two separate schools, although one school's recordings are too degraded for identification purposes.

When questioned about the total number of victims involved in the new case, the lead prosecutor noted that while 160 individuals have been confirmed, there might be more whose identities remain unverified.

As for whether the identified individuals were previously made aware of their possible victimization, the prosecutor stated it remains unclear, as there has been no prior information released from law enforcement regarding this matter.

The suspect has not yet been formally charged in connection with the new allegations, and the prosecutor indicated that it is difficult to provide an accurate timeline for the case's progression. Additionally, inquiries are limited to the two schools currently under investigation.

Regarding the captured footage, the prosecution highlighted that there is currently no evidence to suggest that the material has been disseminated. The investigation has been extensive, focusing on identifying as many victims as possible, and officials have acknowledged public concerns about the potential spread of the content.
