As of today, numerous shipments are being dispatched across Vienna, marking a crucial step in preparation for the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for this Sunday. These shipments consist of essential voting materials, including ballot boxes, voting booths, and furniture needed for the election process. The logistics center of the city is currently experiencing a high volume of activity.
For the 1,374,712 eligible voters in Vienna, a total of 1,504 polling stations will be operational on election day. Each polling location requires comprehensive outfitting, and any unused equipment will largely be stored in a facility located in Floridsdorf.
At present, approximately 2,800 voting booths (including 1,200 accessible ones), 1,100 ballot boxes, 3,000 tables, 5,500 chairs, 200 partition walls, and 20 ramps are being organized into individual packages for delivery to the 1,504 polling districts. It is important to note that not all polling stations will receive deliveries; in some cases, voting booths and ballot boxes will be deposited directly at designated sites.
Before any equipment leaves the storage facility, it undergoes thorough inspection and cleaning. The transportation process commenced today, with peak operations expected from Thursday until election day, during which 32 trucks will be in service.
Post-election, the dismantling and retrieval of equipment will take place, continuing until the Wednesday following the election. In situations where polling stations are located within schools or kindergartens, the voting materials will be collected as soon as possible, often during the night after the election, to ensure that regular activities in these facilities can resume promptly the following morning.
The city councilor responsible for elections in Vienna visited the logistics center today, emphasizing that thorough preparation is essential for the smooth operation of the electoral process. He expressed gratitude to all staff members for their dedicated efforts in facilitating these preparations.
