Ukrainian Drones Launch Attack on Russian City of Kursk

In a recent incident reported by Russian authorities, the city of Kursk in western Russia was targeted by Ukrainian combat drones during the night. According to local military officials, the attack resulted in at least one fatality and nine injuries. Several buildings, including an ambulance garage, were set ablaze as a result of the assault. These claims have not been independently verified.

In the months leading up to this event, Russia has consistently conducted missile and drone strikes against various Ukrainian cities. Over the weekend, a Russian missile attack on the eastern Ukrainian city of Sumy claimed the lives of at least 34 individuals. Just days prior, the major cities of Kyiv and Kharkiv also faced attacks from Russian combat drones.

Ukrainian armed forces have reported significant successes in their campaign against Russian military assets, claiming the destruction of thousands of vehicles since the beginning of the year. Army Chief Olexandr Syrskyj stated on Telegram that the enemy has lost 11,583 vehicles and specialized equipment since January. He emphasized that disrupting the logistics of Russian forces remains a primary objective for the Ukrainian military. Overall, it has been reported that more than 35,000 units of enemy vehicles have been destroyed since the start of 2024.

Syrskyj also shared a video showcasing the destruction of various types of Russian military vehicles, including tanks, by drones. He asserted that these strikes have prevented hundreds of thousands of tons of ammunition, equipment, and fuel from reaching Russian troops along the front lines in Ukraine, although these figures cannot be independently verified.

In response to the recent missile attack on Sumy, the regional governor confirmed to the media that a military gathering was taking place in the city at the time of the strike. Governor Volodymyr Artjuch stated that he was invited to the meeting and clarified that it was not his initiative. The details regarding the meeting's organizer were not disclosed, as he deemed it a separate matter.

Following the missile strike on Sunday, the death toll has risen to 35, with approximately 120 additional individuals reported injured. Local officials, including a mayor and a member of parliament, voiced criticism regarding the assembly of military personnel in a congress hall located near the Russian border. Such gatherings are considered potential targets for Russian attacks, posing a significant risk to civilian safety.
