Despite ongoing discussions regarding potential peace agreements, Ukraine has faced another round of extensive aerial attacks attributed to Russian forces. Overnight, the central Ukrainian region of Poltava, particularly the Krementschuk district, experienced significant strikes targeting multiple energy sector facilities. According to regional authorities, these attacks involved a combination of drones and missiles, resulting in both direct impacts and secondary damage from falling debris. The offensive triggered fires and inflicted damage on technical installations.
As a consequence of these strikes, several localities within the affected region reported disruptions to heating and water services. Municipal officials in Krementschuk also confirmed interruptions to electricity, water, and heating supplies across certain neighborhoods following the latest wave of attacks.
The Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia deployed a total of 241 combat drones, three Kinschal-type hypersonic missiles, and two ballistic missiles during the operation. Ukrainian defenses reportedly intercepted and neutralized 175 drones along with two hypersonic and two ballistic missiles. However, drone impacts were recorded at 14 different locations within Ukraine, with authorities confirming at least 65 successful strikes by Russian drones.
This escalation follows a similar large-scale air assault the previous night, which again targeted the Ukrainian power grid. Various regions reported casualties and emergency power shutdowns as a result of the attacks. Ukrainian leadership has reiterated concerns over deliberate strikes against civilian infrastructure, emphasizing the ongoing strain placed on the country's energy network. Data from the US-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) suggests that, with 653 drones and 51 missiles and cruise missiles involved, this marks the third most severe air assault since the onset of the conflict.
Meanwhile, Russian authorities reported intercepting 77 Ukrainian drones overnight. These were destroyed over seven regions in southern and central Russia, as well as the annexed Crimean Peninsula. Notably, 42 drones were downed in the Saratov region, and 12 in the Rostov region, which borders Ukraine. Local officials in Rostov indicated that the attacks damaged a power transmission pole, resulting in temporary power outages for approximately 250 residents. No injuries were reported by Russian authorities, who rarely disclose the full extent of damage from Ukrainian airstrikes and seldom confirm impacts on military infrastructure.
Ukraine has intensified its drone operations against targets within Russia in recent months. Ukrainian officials describe these actions as retaliatory measures in response to ongoing Russian assaults on Ukrainian urban centers and the national energy system. Strikes on Russian oil facilities are also part of a broader effort to disrupt fuel supplies to invasion forces and reduce the Kremlin's financial resources available for sustaining military operations.
The continued escalation in air attacks from both sides underscores the persistent volatility of the conflict, with infrastructure and civilian life in Ukraine bearing significant impacts. The situation remains fluid, as both nations continue to engage in aerial warfare while international actors advocate for diplomatic solutions.
