In a strong showing at the prestigious Elite-16 Beach Volleyball tournament held in Rio de Janeiro, Austrian athlete Timo Hammarberg, alongside his partner Tim Berger, aimed to break into the top five rankings. Following a successful quarter-final appearance in Joao Pessoa, where they topped their group, the duo faced a formidable challenge in the Brazilian city.

Competing on the iconic Copacabana beach, Hammarberg and Berger encountered the elite team of Jorge Alayo and Noslen Díaz from Cuba, who had recently claimed the Elite16 championship title in Quintana Roo. The match proved to be a tough battle for the young Austrian team, ultimately resulting in a defeat with scores of 14-21 and 18-21.

Despite the setback, the outcome of the tournament remains a positive highlight for Hammarberg and Berger, who are currently ranked 20th in the world. Their earlier triumph in Joao Pessoa, which included a historic victory over the Olympic champions Ahlman and Hellvig, showcases their potential and skill on the international stage.

As the competition progresses, the experience gained from this tournament is expected to be invaluable for the young Austrians as they continue to develop their careers in beach volleyball. They will undoubtedly take the lessons learned from their encounters in Rio as they prepare for future events.
