A newly established award in Sweden has honored a prominent social media creator for her efforts in promoting reading and literature among young audiences. The award, introduced by the book retailer Bokus, aims to acknowledge individuals who inspire enthusiasm for reading and contribute to a rise in book engagement.

The recipient of the inaugural Booktoker of the Year award is Lisa Zentio, a 24-year-old content creator from Karlskrona. Zentio, known to her followers as 'Misslisibell' on Instagram and 'Missbookibell' on TikTok, has built a significant online presence. Her Instagram account boasts nearly half a million followers, while her TikTok platform, focused on literature, reaches 17,000 subscribers. Through these channels, she regularly shares book recommendations, reading tips, and reviews, targeting a wide audience, particularly younger readers.

The Booktok phenomenon refers to a dedicated segment of TikTok where users discuss books, share literary content, and encourage reading. This online movement has become influential in shaping reading trends, particularly among youth. Industry observers suggest that platforms like Booktok have played a significant role in reversing the previous decline in reading habits, making literature more accessible and appealing to new generations.

Representatives from Bokus emphasized that attracting new readers is vital for the sustainability of the book industry. The award aims to spotlight creators who make reading engaging and encourage more people to explore literature. According to the selection committee, Zentio was chosen for her sustained commitment to the online book community and her ability to foster a passion for reading through her digital content.

In addition to her online activities, Zentio recently published her own book, 'Min läsdagbok' (My Reading Diary), which provides readers with tools and inspiration to document their reading journeys. Her efforts have contributed to a growing interest in books among young people, supporting a broader movement to rejuvenate reading culture in Sweden.

The establishment of the Booktoker of the Year award highlights the evolving landscape of literary engagement and the increasing importance of digital influencers in shaping cultural trends. Through initiatives like this, industry stakeholders hope to ensure that reading remains an integral part of everyday life for future generations.
