Russian Strikes Escalate as Ukraine Faces Harsh Winter Temperatures

This is only the second recorded use of the Oresjnik missile during the ongoing conflict. The missile was reportedly aimed at Lviv's energy infrastructure, with regional authorities indicating that a major gas storage facility may have been the primary target. Russian sources assert the strike destroyed a drone manufacturing plant, although these details remain unverified.

Ukrainian officials, including President Volodymyr Zelensky, have warned of the likelihood of further escalations in Russian military activity over the coming days, particularly as the nation faces the onset of a severe cold spell. The American embassy in Ukraine has issued advisories to its staff, urging heightened caution and preparedness for prolonged periods of disruption.

With daytime temperatures in Kyiv forecasted to drop to minus 15 degrees Celsius and nighttime lows reaching minus 20, authorities are urging residents to remain indoors where possible and to travel using public transportation due to hazardous road conditions. Many schools in the city have either extended their winter holidays or shifted to online instruction. Households have been advised to stock up on food and water supplies that do not require heating, as well as to ensure they have charged batteries, portable lighting, and warm blankets readily available.

The Russian campaign continues to focus heavily on Ukraine's energy grid, targeting electricity, gas, heating, and water facilities. Earlier in the week, power and water outages affected over a million people in central regions of the country.
