In a significant effort to improve traffic safety, the intersection of Ebreichsdorfer Straße (B 210) and Tattendorfer Straße (L 154) in Oberwaltersdorf has undergone a major redesign. The newly installed traffic light system was officially activated, marking a crucial step towards reducing congestion and minimizing accident risks at this busy junction, particularly during peak morning and evening hours.
The redesign was initiated by the Lower Austrian Road Service in collaboration with the municipality of Oberwaltersdorf, recognizing the need for enhancements due to the area's high traffic volume. The improvements include a modern traffic light system, an additional left-turn lane, and upgraded pedestrian and cyclist crossings.
The traffic light installation, carried out by Gesig, is designed to prioritize vehicles on the B 210, keeping the signal permanently green. The traffic light will change only when a vehicle approaches from the L 154, detected by motion sensors embedded in the road. Pedestrians and cyclists can also request crossing signals via push buttons.
Furthermore, the design of the B 210 lanes has been adjusted to allow for the construction of a left-turn lane complete with a traffic island from the direction of Ebreichsdorf. The intersection's road surface has been reinforced with concrete, while existing sidewalks have been widened to facilitate a safer connection for cyclists crossing B 210.
The construction work was undertaken by Leyrer & Graf from Schwechat, with total project costs amounting to approximately EUR580,000. This funding was shared, with around EUR400,000 provided by the state of Lower Austria and approximately EUR180,000 contributed by the municipality of Oberwaltersdorf.
