On Friday afternoon, the new exhibition titled 'Dreams...Dreaming' was inaugurated at the Schallaburg, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in a captivating blend of fantasy and reality. The event was marked by the presence of the regional governor, who highlighted the Schallaburg as a significant site for cultural interaction, accessible and enjoyable for individuals of all ages.
The governor expressed pride in the Schallaburg's evolution into an international exhibition venue, noting that over 6.5 million visitors have come to appreciate its offerings since its inception, with an impressive 98% recommending it to others. The Schallaburg aims to make art and culture tangible and affordable for all, as evidenced by its collaborations with local family initiatives.
During the opening, the governor emphasized the importance of the exhibition, which presents an interactive dream landscape designed for families, encouraging exploration and discovery. The title 'Dreams...Dreaming' resonates with the cultural developments in Lower Austria, as the region has realized numerous aspirations in the arts over the past year. Notable achievements include the renovation of the former synagogue in St. Pölten, which has become a cornerstone of memorial culture, as well as the restoration of the Wiener Neustadt City Theatre. Additionally, a unique children's art center has been established, further enriching the local cultural landscape.
The regional cultural policy, as a whole, represents a significant achievement, transitioning from a time when the region was overshadowed by the capital city to becoming a recognized cultural hub both nationally and internationally. With more than 800 museums and a vast network of music and theater venues, Lower Austria boasts one of the highest densities of cultural institutions in Europe.
The managing director of the Schallaburg expressed gratitude to the team behind the exhibition, particularly the curators who played a vital role in its creation. He also acknowledged the audience's essential contribution to the Schallaburg's success, likening them to the vital ingredients of a dish.
Additionally, musician Ina Regen, who performed during the inauguration, shared insights into how dreams influence her creative process and artistic endeavors. The celebratory event featured musical performances by saxophonist Gerald Selig, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
