Marina Hanke Re-elected as Chair of Vienna's SPÖ Women's Committee

On March 29, 2025, the Vienna SPÖ Women's Conference marked a significant moment as Marina Hanke was re-elected as the chairperson of the committee, receiving an impressive 96.3% of the votes. This marks her fourth consecutive term since she first took office in 2019.

The mayor of Vienna and chair of the SPÖ Vienna, Dr. Michael Ludwig, along with Barbara Novak, the SPÖ Vienna state secretary, extended their warm congratulations to Hanke and the newly elected board. Ludwig praised Hanke for being a powerful advocate for women's rights and for promoting gender equality within the city.

Looking ahead to the upcoming city elections on April 27, Ludwig emphasized the importance of ensuring that Vienna remains a safe and independent city for women. He reiterated the commitment to progressive women's policies, highlighting initiatives such as labor market programs, free kindergarten services, and the expansion of full-day schools aimed at enhancing the work-family balance. Additionally, he mentioned efforts to support women in emerging sectors like digital technology and green jobs, as well as a focus on women's health issues.

Barbara Novak also highlighted the significance of advancing women's rights in the face of global challenges, underscoring that Vienna must continue to lead in promoting equality and self-determination for women. She pointed out that the Vienna SPÖ Women's Committee has positioned itself as a reliable representative for women in the city, capable of addressing various issues from career support through specific programs to comprehensive safety measures, including the establishment of a fifth women's shelter and a unique 24-hour women's emergency hotline.

Novak concluded by stating that the overarching goal remains to ensure a better quality of life for all women in Vienna, emphasizing the committee's commitment to equitable distribution of resources and addressing health care needs.
