On Tuesday afternoon, emergency services responded to a serious incident in the Liljeholmen district of Stockholm, Sweden, where a public transport bus crashed into the facade of a residential building. The accident occurred while the bus was at its final stop in Liljeholmen and had passengers onboard.
According to Stockholm Public Transport (SL), the bus was in active service when the collision happened. Police reported that there were a total of 17 people present on the bus at the time of the crash. Immediate rescue operations ensued, with emergency medical teams attending to those affected.
Medical authorities from Region Stockholm confirmed that seven individuals were transported to the hospital for further treatment. Among these, two sustained severe injuries and were given priority medical attention. Additionally, the bus driver was airlifted to the hospital via ambulance helicopter due to the seriousness of their injuries.
Nine more passengers were taken to a local urgent care center to receive medical support for less critical injuries. Despite the severity of the crash, police indicated that there have been no reported injuries among people outside the bus, suggesting that bystanders or residents in the immediate vicinity were not harmed.
Following the incident, law enforcement initiated a formal investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the crash. Authorities are currently examining whether negligence in traffic or other factors could have contributed to the event. The investigation includes an inquiry into potential causes such as mechanical failure, driver error, or other operational issues.
As part of the investigative process, the bus involved in the collision has been impounded and will be subject to a comprehensive technical examination. This analysis aims to uncover any mechanical faults or malfunctions that may have played a role in the incident.
Police have also begun collecting witness statements from passengers and others who may have observed the events leading up to the crash. The area around the accident site was temporarily cordoned off to facilitate emergency response and allow investigators to carry out their work safely and efficiently.
Officials from both SL and the emergency services are collaborating closely to support those affected and to ensure a thorough review of safety protocols. The incident has prompted a review of operational procedures for public transport vehicles operating in urban environments, with a focus on preventing similar accidents from occurring in the future.
Authorities have not released specific details about the identities or conditions of those injured, in line with privacy regulations. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and more information becomes available regarding the exact cause of the crash and the well-being of the involved individuals.
