The completion of the Koralmtunnel, a pivotal section of the new Southern Railway line, is expected to significantly transform the West Styrian region of Austria. The town of Groß St. Florian, previously somewhat isolated, now stands poised for economic and infrastructural change as the newly constructed Weststeiermark railway station begins operation. The improved rail connectivity is expected to make the site more attractive for further investment, particularly from companies in the pharmaceutical, automotive, and process industries seeking proximity to both research facilities and efficient transportation links.

The regional development company overseeing the business park has implemented strict criteria for potential tenants, focusing on innovation-led industries rather than large-scale logistics or waste management operations. This selective approach is intended to cultivate an environment reminiscent of a 'Silicon Valley,' emphasizing research, development, and high-tech production.

Despite these ambitious plans, local residents have expressed cautious optimism about the changes. Some community members question whether the improved transport links will lead to lasting economic revitalization or simply result in increased commuter traffic.
