Jeep, the renowned American off-road vehicle manufacturer under Stellantis, has revealed its inaugural fully electric off-roader, representing a significant advancement in both electrification and all-terrain performance. The new model, known as the Jeep Recon, combines impressive electric power with classic Jeep design, aiming to meet the rigorous demands of off-road enthusiasts while embracing sustainable mobility.
The electric drivetrain of the Jeep Recon stands out with remarkable performance statistics uncommon in traditional off-road vehicles. The model accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, powered by a robust output of 650 horsepower (478 kW) and 840 Newton meters of torque. Such figures are typically associated with high-performance sports cars, highlighting the potential of electric propulsion in the SUV segment.
The Recon is equipped with an advanced all-wheel-drive system. At its core are two independent electric motors--one on each axle. The rear axle features its own dedicated electric drive module capable of delivering up to 250 kW, ensuring torque is distributed efficiently to both rear wheels. This setup enables immediate power delivery and optimal traction on diverse terrains.
Engineered for challenging landscapes, the Jeep Recon comes with a suite of off-road enhancements. It features a ground clearance of 23 centimeters, thanks to standard 33-inch tires in the Moab package, and is protected by steel skid plates shielding the 100-kWh, 400-volt battery pack. Off-road capabilities are further emphasized by a 34.5-degree approach angle and a 23.5-degree ramp angle, facilitating navigation over uneven ground and steep obstacles.
An advanced traction management system, Selec-Terrain, provides drivers with multiple settings tailored for various environments. In addition to traditional Auto, Sport, Snow, and Sand modes, the Moab variant introduces a Rock mode, designed specifically for tackling rocky terrain. The system supports two-pedal driving techniques for enhanced vehicle control, and includes a hill-start assist function to prevent rollback on inclines.
The Recon also incorporates open-air versatility--a hallmark of Jeep's heritage. Both the doors and rear side windows can be easily removed without the need for tools, and the roof can slide open, offering an immersive outdoor driving experience reminiscent of the Jeep Wrangler.
Visually, the Recon maintains the brand's signature styling cues. The front presents an upright stance with illuminated grille rings and the iconic seven-slot design. Daytime running lights adopt a U-shaped pattern, while the rear features Wrangler-inspired LED taillights and a swing gate that houses a full-sized spare tire.
Inside, the vehicle departs from traditional Jeep interiors by offering a modern, technology-driven cabin. A prominent 26-inch display dominates the dashboard, complemented by a horizontally oriented 14.5-inch touchscreen for navigation and media controls. Drive modes can be selected via a rotary dial on the center console, and dedicated red switches control off-road settings and the rear differential lock.
While detailed dimensions have not yet been disclosed, the Recon is reported to be comparable in size to the Grand Cherokee and visually draws inspiration from models such as the Ford Bronco. Production of the all-electric Jeep Recon is scheduled to commence next year, with initial deliveries planned for Canada and the United States. A global rollout is expected in the fourth quarter, expanding availability to other markets.
Jeep has not yet provided specific details regarding the vehicle's driving range, charging capabilities, or pricing. These key figures are anticipated to be announced closer to the official launch as the company positions the Recon as a pioneering electric off-road SUV in its growing lineup.
