Investigation Launched After Infant Admitted with Injuries

Mon 7th Apr, 2025

An infant boy was brought to a local hospital on April 1, 2025, by his parents, prompting an investigation due to the nature of his injuries. Medical assessments revealed that the child had suffered fractures, which may not have been recent, leading authorities to file a report concerning potential child abuse.

Erich Habitzl, a spokesperson for the Wiener Neustadt public prosecutor's office, confirmed that a forensic expert has been appointed to determine the cause of the injuries. Investigations are currently underway against the parents for suspected severe bodily harm. Reports suggest that during initial questioning, the parents were unable to provide satisfactory explanations for the child's injuries.

This case follows a similar incident from February, where another two-month-old infant was hospitalized with head injuries suspected to be the result of abusive behavior. The parents of that child were also reported to authorities for potentially causing intentional bodily harm. In that earlier case, the father was taken into custody on March 26, and subsequently, preventive detention was ordered two days later. Evidence collected supported the suspicion against him, and a forensic report is still pending.

As these investigations unfold, the welfare of the child remains the primary concern, with legal proceedings likely to follow as more information becomes available.
