Two Innocent Victims Believed to Have Been Killed by Mistake in Biskopsgården Shooting

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting incident in the Biskopsgården district of Gothenburg, where two men without any prior criminal convictions lost their lives. The event, which occurred late one evening near Vintervädersgatan, involved a burst of gunfire in a parking area and an adjacent passageway leading to a residential courtyard. Despite emergency efforts, both victims, aged 19 and 21, were pronounced dead at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Initial investigations revealed that neither victim had a documented history of criminal activity or visible affiliations with any of the local criminal networks involved in the ongoing conflict in Biskopsgården. The dispute between rival groups in the area has been described by experts as one of the most lethal in the country.

Following an extensive eleven-month investigation, prosecutors have charged two individuals in connection with the case. A 24-year-old man with links to Trollhättan faces two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Neither of the accused is considered a central figure in the ongoing conflict between the 'Southern' and 'Northern' networks in Biskopsgården. The older suspect had previously served a prison sentence for vandalism and assaulting a public official during a demonstration in 2020, while the younger had served a term for involvement in a major drug offense.

Police believe that the two victims were not the intended targets of the attack. The actual target is alleged to have been a 28-year-old man with connections to one of the local networks, who managed to escape unharmed despite being shot at. According to the investigation, the three men were standing outside a convenience store when the suspects approached under the pretense of asking for a cigarette lighter. Almost immediately, one of the suspects produced a firearm and began shooting.

The swift apprehension of the suspects was made possible by forensic analysis of shell casings recovered at the scene, which allowed the police to identify and arrest the two men within days of the incident. Investigators are still working to determine the precise motive behind the shooting, as the accused have consistently denied involvement except in relation to explosive materials found during the search of one suspect's residence. Authorities have noted a possible connection to an earlier incident in which a young man, known to the suspects, was injured in a separate shooting in the Flatås area two weeks prior.

The violence in Biskopsgården continued throughout the year, with additional shootings and fatalities affecting both sides of the local network conflict. Notable incidents include the shooting of a man with ties to the 'Southern' group in June and the deaths of two individuals associated with the 'Northern' network in a separate incident in September. Another fatal shooting occurred in Tolered, involving a man closely linked to a former network leader.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to uncover further details about the circumstances leading to the fatal shooting of the two men, who are now buried close to each other in a Gothenburg cemetery.
