The police in Hohenau are currently seeking assistance from the public to identify an individual suspected of involvement in a theft and subsequent fraudulent use of a bank card. According to authorities, the incident took place on October 8, when an unidentified individual reportedly stole a handbag from an unlocked vehicle in Hohenau.

Investigators state that the stolen handbag was discovered several days later in the vicinity of the original theft location. While the bag was recovered, certain items were missing, notably a case containing various cards and vouchers. The police have determined that among the stolen items was a bank card, which was later used to make unauthorized transactions in Hohenau.

Shortly after the theft, the perpetrator is believed to have utilized the stolen bank card for at least two transactions. One involved a purchase at a local retail store, while another was a cash withdrawal at an automated teller machine. The cumulative financial loss resulting from these actions is estimated to be in the mid-hundreds of euros, according to police reports.

The criminal investigation is being conducted under the direction of the Korneuburg Public Prosecutor's Office, which has authorized the release of surveillance images in order to identify the suspect. Law enforcement officials have disseminated photos obtained from security cameras at both the ATM and the retail location where the unauthorized transactions occurred. These images are intended to facilitate the identification of the individual involved and to encourage potential witnesses to come forward.

The Hohenau police have appealed to the public for any information that could aid in identifying the suspect. Individuals who may have observed suspicious activity on or around the date of the incident, or who recognize the person depicted in the published surveillance images, are urged to contact the Hohenau Police Department. Information can be shared confidentially if desired, and authorities have provided a dedicated telephone number for tips and leads.

Police stress the importance of community cooperation in resolving cases of theft and fraud, emphasizing that prompt reporting of suspicious behavior and timely sharing of relevant information can significantly enhance investigative efforts. The authorities further remind residents to exercise caution and ensure vehicles are securely locked and valuables are not left unattended, as such preventive measures can reduce the risk of opportunistic crime.

Efforts to identify the suspect remain ongoing, and law enforcement agencies are working in coordination with local businesses and financial institutions to trace additional leads. The Hohenau police reiterate their commitment to maintaining public safety and encourage anyone with pertinent information to reach out using the provided contact channels.
