Global Dissidents Gather in Berlin for World Liberty Congress

In a significant event aimed at promoting freedom and human rights, approximately 200 dissidents from over 50 countries are set to convene at the Berlin State Parliament on November 8 and 9. This gathering marks the inaugural session of the Berlin Freedom Week, organized by the World Liberty Congress, which aims to foster discussions surrounding democracy and personal liberties.

The Berlin State Parliament has been chosen as the venue for this important assembly due to its historical significance as a symbol of democratic rebirth in Germany, as highlighted by Cornelia Seibeld, the President of the Parliament. She emphasized Berlin's role as a welcoming city for exiled individuals and democratic movements, underlining the city's responsibility to support such international networks.

Masih Alinejad, the President of the World Liberty Congress, stressed the importance of the collective voices of its members, who represent countless individuals enduring oppression in their respective nations. She pointed out that many brave individuals face imprisonment and exile simply for advocating freedom. The congress serves as a platform for these representatives to unite, not just as exiles but as advocates for millions silenced by authoritarian regimes.

Alinejad further remarked on the significance of Berlin as a reminder of the possibility of change, stating that walls can indeed come down and that solidarity has the power to outlast any dictatorship.

The World Liberty Congress, established in November 2022, aims to create a global network to champion the fight for democracy across the globe. As the representatives gather in Berlin, they will not only share their experiences but will also seek to inspire a renewed commitment to the values of freedom and human rights worldwide.
