Georgi Festival Celebrates Tradition with Horse Blessing in St. Georgen/Klaus

On a recent Sunday, the community of St. Georgen in Klaus came together to celebrate the annual Georgi Festival alongside a day dedicated to brass music. The festivities commenced with a holy mass, followed by a lively Frühschoppen, where the Hollenstein Music Association provided musical entertainment.

Attendees enjoyed various activities including stalls offering local delicacies, grilled chicken, sweet treats, and a bouncy castle for children, creating a festive atmosphere while they awaited the afternoon's main event.

The highlight of the day was the traditional Georgiritt, featuring the saintly figure of St. George, portrayed by Anton Figerl, who led a procession of knights, a dragon, and numerous horses to the village green. This vibrant display captivated the audience and set the stage for the subsequent horse blessing.

During the horse blessing ceremony, Father Laurentius Resch bestowed blessings upon the horses, marking an important ritual that holds significance for the local equestrian community. The ceremony was musically enriched by the performances of the St. Georgen and Hollenstein Trachten music bands, enhancing the spiritual and festive ambiance.

The event showcased not only the cultural heritage of the region but also fostered community spirit, bringing together residents and visitors alike to partake in the celebrations.
