An early morning fire engulfed a barn in Oberstinkenbrunn on April 7, prompting a swift response from local fire departments. At approximately 5:50 AM, members of the Wullersdorf fire brigade received an urgent alarm regarding a significant building fire. Within minutes, four fire trucks and 18 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the firefighters, led by Incident Commander Andreas Kerschl, discovered the barn fully ablaze. A nearby resident warned the crew about the potential presence of an oil tank inside the structure. However, the initial team equipped with breathing apparatus quickly assessed the situation and confirmed that no oil tank was present.
Firefighters acted promptly, managing to relocate one vehicle from the barn to safety. The firefighting efforts commenced immediately, utilizing a high-pressure water line, along with multiple C-type hoses. The Oberstinkenbrunn fire department established a supply line for the Wullersdorf water tanker, which facilitated an efficient water supply during the operation.
As additional fire units arrived, several supply lines were connected to tankers, allowing for a coordinated and extensive firefighting effort. Crews from Immendorf and Schalladorf accessed the property from the front to assist with the firefighting operations. The rapid response and teamwork among the fire brigades helped contain the damage to the barn itself.
The Hollabrunn fire unit provided aerial support with a drone equipped with thermal imaging technology, enhancing the assessment of the fire's progression. Other fire brigades, including Nappersdorf and Maria Roggendorf, were on standby, along with a ladder truck from Hollabrunn.
After approximately 30 minutes of intense firefighting, the firefighters were able to significantly reduce the fire's intensity. They continued to search for any remaining hot spots, ensuring that all embers were fully extinguished. Following a thorough inspection with the thermal camera, the Wullersdorf firefighters successfully completed their operation and returned to the fire station within about an hour.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the authorities. A total of around 80 firefighters from various brigades participated in the operation, showcasing the collaborative spirit of the local firefighting community.
