Two Arrested in Connection with Double Murder in Biskopsgården

Authorities in Gothenburg have made significant progress in the investigation of a double homicide that occurred in Biskopsgården. The incident took place just before midnight on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from law enforcement following reports of gunfire in the eastern part of the neighborhood.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two men, aged 20 and 25, suffering from severe injuries at a parking area adjacent to residential buildings. One of the victims had managed to reach a nearby apartment in search of assistance before succumbing to his injuries. Both individuals were later pronounced dead at Sahlgrenska Hospital.

A third man, in his 30s, who was present at the scene, managed to escape and has since been interviewed by police.

Investigators believe that the older victim was the intended target of the attack, while the two deceased men were not known to be involved in the long-standing gang conflict between the 'Södra' and 'Norra' factions that has plagued Biskopsgården for over a decade.

The first individual to be detained is a 23-year-old man from Trollhättan. He appeared in court wearing the facility's standard green attire and denied involvement in the crime through his attorney. Prosecutor Ulrika Åberg successfully secured his detention on probable cause for charges including murder, attempted murder, and serious weapons offenses.

Another suspect, a 21-year-old man from Gothenburg, has also been apprehended. The prosecutor has sought his detention on similar grounds, including aiding and abetting murder and attempted murder, along with serious violations of laws governing flammable and explosive materials on the day of his arrest, April 17.

Both suspects have prior criminal records, although they were not previously linked to the ongoing gang conflict in Biskopsgården. The 23-year-old had been sentenced to four months in prison following the Black Lives Matter demonstration in Gothenburg on June 7, 2020, for charges including assault and vandalism, as well as subsequent theft of a mobile phone. The 21-year-old had received a three-year sentence in late 2022 for serious drug offenses related to handling a large quantity of cannabis and a smaller amount of cocaine, along with a later conviction for minor drug offenses.

During the court proceedings, the 21-year-old showed visible distress upon learning of his detention, shaking his head and appearing upset. As he left the courtroom, he placed a hand over his heart while looking at a relative who called out to him, expressing love and support.

His attorney, Björn Hurtig, remarked on his client's emotional state, stating that while he anticipated being detained, he is deeply troubled by the situation. Hurtig did not elaborate on the specific reasons behind the 21-year-old's claims of innocence regarding the double homicide.
