A professional diver tragically lost his life on Friday while performing work in a water basin at the Simmering power plant in Vienna. The cause of death remains undetermined as authorities continue to investigate the incident.
Initial reports indicate that communication with the 32-year-old diver was lost during his dive. Emergency measures were promptly initiated to retrieve him. Rescuers attempted to use a safety device as well as assistance from another diver to bring him back to the surface. Unfortunately, he was found deceased.
Units from the Vienna professional fire department, including their dive rescue team, were deployed to assist in the recovery efforts. The diver was located several meters below the surface during the intensive rescue operations. In light of the tragic event, the Vienna Acute Care Team was also present to support those affected by the incident.
The labor inspectorate has been notified about the occurrence, which took place around 3:45 PM. Investigations are currently underway to determine the specific circumstances surrounding this unfortunate accident.
