Broomfield, Colorado - Quantinuum, a leading player in the quantum computing sector, has been selected by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to participate in the first phase of its Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI). This initiative aims to explore the feasibility of developing a commercially viable quantum computer by the year 2033.
Quantinuum, recognized for possessing the most powerful quantum computer globally, is well-positioned to deliver application-ready quantum computing solutions on an industrial scale by the early 2030s. The QBI will assess participants through three stages: A, B, and C. In Stage A, participants must outline their vision for a usable quantum computer and present a plan for its imminent realization, where 'usable' means that the computational value exceeds its costs.
Recent independent benchmarking studies conducted by top institutions in quantum computing research have validated that Quantinuum's systems outperform industry standards. Last year, the company released a developmental roadmap that charts a course toward achieving a universal, fully fault-tolerant quantum computer by 2029. Furthermore, Quantinuum aims to scale up to even larger machines in the early 2030s, aligning with the objectives set forth by the QBI.
Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, President and CEO of Quantinuum, expressed optimism regarding the collaboration with DARPA, anticipating a productive partnership with the evaluation team that will review the company's roadmap and technological strategies. Quantinuum's approach is designed to meet the goals established by DARPA within the QBI framework.
Additionally, technology giants Microsoft and NVIDIA are set to join Quantinuum in Stage A, leveraging their extensive collaboration history with Quantinuum to advance commercially scalable quantum computing.
Founded with a mission to lead the quantum computing revolution, Quantinuum employs over 550 professionals, including more than 370 scientists and engineers across the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan. The company remains committed to delivering the highest performance in quantum computing benchmarks.
