Collective Bargaining Negotiations Commence for 50,000 Chemical Industry Workers

Negotiations for collective agreements affecting approximately 50,000 employees in the chemical industry have officially commenced. These discussions began on March 19, as part of the spring wage round for various sectors.

Today marks the initiation of negotiations for the chemical sector, which is the third industry to enter talks this season. Trade unions PRO-GE and GPA are advocating for significant wage and salary increases that surpass the average inflation rate, with particular attention to those earning lower incomes. According to union representatives, it is essential for workers to receive sustainable and meaningful salary increments, especially considering the ongoing financial pressures caused by rising living costs.

In addition to wage increases, the unions are proposing the introduction of a 'time-off option,' allowing employees to convert monetary compensation into additional leisure time. They are also calling for enhancements in allowances and bonuses, as well as increases in apprentice wages above the inflation rate. Among other proposals, the unions seek to simplify access to a sixth vacation week and introduce a climate ticket specifically for apprentices. Furthermore, they aim to expand health preventive measures available within workplaces.

The next round of negotiations is scheduled for April 9, with the aim of finalizing the new collective agreement by May 1.
