Courageous Bystanders Intervene in Violent Assault on Krems Woman

On the evening of April 15, a 28-year-old man from Krems, known for his violent behavior and previous legal issues, committed a brutal assault against two women. Initial reports indicate that the assailant first attacked his wife in their residence in Weinzierl before escalating his violence against his sister, aged 32, shortly after 10 PM in the Sauergasse area.

The motivation behind these attacks remains unclear. Witnesses reported that the perpetrator forcibly dragged his sister out of her home and launched a violent assault on her. Eyewitness accounts reveal that he struck her repeatedly with his fists and then threw her to the ground. Once she was on the asphalt, he continued the assault, kicking her in the body and head, and even reportedly slammed her head against the pavement multiple times.

During the assault, the attacker reportedly shouted threats, indicating his intention to kill her. Fortunately, several neighbors heard the commotion and bravely intervened. Five witnesses approached the scene, managing to restrain the assailant despite sustaining minor injuries themselves. A police officer later remarked that their actions likely saved the woman's life, emphasizing the potential severity of the situation had they not intervened.

After the assault, the attacker attempted to flee but was apprehended shortly thereafter by responding police officers. He has since been taken into custody at the Krems detention center, facing charges of attempted murder. Reports indicate that the assailant is the younger brother of a notorious murderer from Krems, whose case shocked the community in 2001. That incident involved a 15-year-old who brutally killed his 18-year-old girlfriend out of jealousy.
