Gipsy Kings: "Music Is a Natural Way of Life"

Significant traffic congestion disrupted travel across Austria on Saturday, with several motorways and main roads experiencing extended delays due to construction work and increased summer holiday traffic. The Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club (ÖAMTC) reported that traffic levels reached notable highs, particularly affecting those traveling through key transit regions.
Major Delays in TyrolIn Tyrol, lengthy queues formed on the Fern Pass Road (B179) in both directions, stretching from the Inn Valley to the border tunnel at Füssen. The build-up led to frequent standstills and caused journey times to increase by at least an hour. Travelers on the Loferer Road (B178), especially between Söll and Going towards St. Johann, encountered slow-moving traffic, resulting in additional delays.
Border Congestion Near GermanyThose heading towards Germany faced further complications at the Kufstein border crossing. Vehicles heading out of Austria were delayed for up to 30 minutes as a result of heavy outbound traffic, causing frustration for many drivers attempting to leave the country.
Delays in Salzburg RegionSalzburg's Tauern Motorway (A10) also experienced substantial congestion. Traffic between Golling and Werfen, particularly in the areas affected by ongoing construction work towards Villach, moved at a notably reduced pace. These delays added to the overall strain on motorists traveling south.
Traffic Jams in Carinthia and StyriaIn Carinthia, the Karawanken Motorway (A11) near the Karawanken Tunnel saw wait times of up to an hour, as vehicles queued to pass through this major transit point. The South Motorway (A2) in Styria, especially around the stretch between Steinberg and the Packsattel, was heavily affected by large-scale construction, causing long tailbacks both leading to and within the work zone.
Severe Congestion in Vienna Due to RoadworkVienna experienced some of the most severe traffic jams of the day. Renovation work on the city's South-East Tangent (A23) restricted available lanes to only two in the direction of Kagran at the Prater Hochstraße area. This bottleneck resulted in more than six kilometers of congestion and travel times extended by up to 45 minutes for commuters and travelers alike.
Advice for TravelersThe ÖAMTC advised drivers to expect longer journeys on these heavily used routes, especially where roadworks are ongoing. Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time, plan alternative routes where possible, and stay updated with the latest traffic bulletins to minimize delays. The combination of construction projects and summer holiday traffic continues to put additional pressure on Austria's main transport corridors, particularly during peak weekend periods.
Authorities also reminded travelers to ensure vehicles are prepared for extended stationary periods, especially in high-temperature conditions. Adequate fuel, water, and supplies are recommended for anyone embarking on long-distance journeys during these peak times.
OutlookWith the summer travel season underway, continued high volumes of traffic are anticipated in the coming weeks. The ÖAMTC and local authorities are monitoring road conditions and providing real-time updates to help alleviate congestion where possible. Travelers are urged to stay informed and adjust travel plans accordingly as further delays are likely on key routes across the country.
