Former Chancellor Spokesperson Takes on Role at Raiffeisen

Rupert Reif, who served as the spokesperson for former Chancellor Karl Nehammer, is set to embark on a new career path within the financial sector. Following Nehammer's resignation in January after the failure of coalition negotiations, Reif has opted to leave the political arena, where he has been a prominent figure, having also worked with former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and Finance Minister Magnus Brunner.

Effective April 1, 2025, Reif will assume leadership of corporate communications for Raiffeisen Holding Niederösterreich-Wien and Raiffeisen Landesbank Niederösterreich-Wien. This transition has been anticipated for some time, with various reports indicating that the appointment was confirmed well ahead of the official announcement.

Reif's predecessor in this role, Michaela Haber, also has connections to the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). Haber previously served as a spokesperson for Vizekanzler Michael Spindelegger and Finance Minister Hans Jörg Schelling before making the switch to the banking sector.

In addition, the current General Secretary at Raiffeisen Holding Niederösterreich-Wien, Clemens Niedrist, has a background as the chief of staff for Finance Minister Brunner, establishing a continuity of political experience within the institution.

Reif's departure from the political landscape marks a significant shift, as he has been a key player in Austrian politics over the past several years. His extensive experience in communications and public relations will be vital as he steps into his new role, where he is expected to enhance the visibility and public perception of Raiffeisen's operations in the region.
