A fire started in a barn early thursday morning in Dorf/Krautgartenstraße, Ismaning, with the the inferno causing substantial damage to the property.
The fire station was contacted shortly before 8 o'clock in the evening: a store of hay ignited in the first floor barn, which is approximately 200 square meters. Thirty-eight members of the auxiliary fire brigade of Ismaning, under the command of Werner Kastner, averted further disaster by containing the fire and stopped it from spreading into the attic. After the machinery on the ground floor was brought to safety, the farmer and his "Manitou" managed to break down the wooden intermediate ceiling.
Load by load the firemen carted the hay outside and extinguished it with foam. It was almost 1 o'clock by the time the operation was finished.
An hour later Kastner and his 27 firemen had to march out again to a construction site on the Wasserturmstraße, where a container with wood waste had ignited.
