Sat 1st Feb, 2025

Recent aerial assaults by Russia on various Ukrainian cities have resulted in multiple casualties and significant destruction. Reports indicate that at least six civilians have lost their lives due to these attacks, which involved the use of missiles, drones, and glide bombs.

Authorities in Poltava, located in central Ukraine, reported three fatalities and ten injuries, including children, following a missile strike that hit a residential building. In the northeastern city of Sumy, two individuals were confirmed dead due to another Russian offensive, while a separate drone attack in Kharkiv resulted in one additional death.

Severe damage was also reported in the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia and in the port city of Odessa, where historical buildings were struck. Officials in Odessa stated that several individuals were injured during the evening hours.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks as acts of terrorism, emphasizing the need for increased protection against such threats. He called on Western allies to enhance their support for Ukraine, stating that every air defense system and missile provided could save lives. Zelenskyy urged partners to fulfill their commitments and intensify pressure on Russia.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that the recent strikes were aimed at Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which supports its defense industry. They asserted that all targeted facilities had been successfully destroyed. However, the accuracy of both sides' claims remains difficult to verify independently.

As Ukraine continues to defend itself from ongoing aggression, the situation remains tense, with calls for heightened international support growing louder.
