The Austrian flight simulator manufacturer Axis is significantly enhancing its presence in the US market, despite ongoing political challenges. In the coming weeks, the company will deliver another simulator, which has been constructed in Lebring, Styria. This delivery marks a milestone for Axis, as it has successfully obtained official qualification from US authorities for the simulator's performance characteristics, which were determined during internal flight tests.
This new simulator, designated for the Bombardier Challenger 350, represents the third unit that Axis has exported to the United States. The company has carved out a unique position in the global market by utilizing proprietary behavioral and response data from aircraft, which positions them favorably as they seek to penetrate the US market further. The CEO of Axis emphasized that this development is crucial for expanding their footprint in North America.
Axis gathers flight data through extensive testing campaigns conducted in Florida, where they equip aircraft with sensors and measurement tools to accurately capture their aerodynamic properties during various maneuvers. This innovative approach allows Axis to generate flight data for aircraft types that previously lacked such measurements.
Axis is one of only five companies worldwide that produce Level-D flight simulators. Michaela Froelich, the Commercial Director, expressed confidence that the delivery of this third simulator will not be the last order from the United States. She noted that the US possesses the largest aviation industry globally, presenting substantial growth opportunities for the company. Additionally, there are promising projects in the pipeline, with expectations of concrete orders in the upcoming months, indicating a robust demand for Axis's products.
Furthermore, Axis plans to establish a dedicated service and maintenance facility in the US, which is set to commence operations in 2025. The precise location for this new facility is currently under strategic review. The company recognizes the importance of being closer to their clients to enhance service quality while also considering geopolitical factors that could influence their operations. The CEO remarked that this expansion is a strategic move to mitigate the impact of US tariffs.
Importantly, the expansion into the US market will not detract from the operations in Lebring. On the contrary, Axis continues to seek qualified professionals and plans to grow its workforce at the Lebring site as well.
