About 's Antla

Welcome to the heart of beer culture in Kronach. The town is shaped by the geographical location of the rivers Rodach, Kronach, and Haßlach, which converge here, and by Lucas Cranach the Elder, a friend of Martin Luther who worked predominantly in Kronach and Wittenberg. The 'Upper Town', as the old town is called, reflects this era with its steep half-timbered gables, sturdy sandstone walls, and the hard, gnarled cobblestones. Little has changed here. The brewing tradition of the Middle Ages, the production of beer, was a staple in these walls. Several drying and brewing houses shaped the town's image and were the center of daily life. Although brewing was traditionally a woman's task and common in every household, the city of Kronach offered a so-called 'contract brewing' in two drying and brewing houses. With the advent of 'industrial beer', these facilities became unprofitable, and in 1917 the city council decided to 'erase' them – a pity! Exactly 92 years later, in 2009, we brought this tradition back to the old town of Kronach! Let yourself be enchanted by freshly tapped, naturally cloudy, bottom-fermented beer – whether light or dark – and enjoy our 'Antlabräu' in the heart of beer culture in Kronach. Our young craft beers are equally captivating – with seasonal highlights from the brew kettle, you will experience an unparalleled selection of beer specialties in Kronach! Experience Franconian culinary delights and brewing tradition in a medieval setting. We look forward to your visit!
