About Restaurant Altenburg1

The Altenburg Bamberg is a historic landmark with unique charm, perched high above Bamberg. It has been a prominent feature of the city for centuries, first mentioned in 1109. The castle served as a refuge for the Bamberg prince-bishops and was largely destroyed during the Second Margrave War in 1553, although parts of the structure remain. In the 19th century, it was partially restored and has since become a popular destination, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Bamberg and the surrounding area. The restaurant on-site combines traditional Franconian cuisine with a historic ambiance, providing a cozy dining experience either in the guest room or on the terrace overlooking the city.
