Piräus is a municipality in Attica, an important industrial center in Greece and the third largest Mediterranean port. In the time of Pericles, the city layout was designed by Hippodamos from Miletus with right-angled intersecting streets, the ports were expanded, and equipped with colonnades and ship houses.
