About Knorrhütte

The Knorrhütte is a publicly accessible, managed hut (Category I) of the Munich section. Located in the Wettersteingebirge, it is the closest shelter to the Zugspitze on Bavarian soil and the oldest hut of our section, built in 1855. It serves as an ideal base for ascending the Zugspitze, whether from Garmisch-Partenkirchen via the Reintal or from Ehrwald over the Gatterl. The hut is also a worthwhile destination for day visitors in a high alpine setting, especially when using the Tiroler or Bavarian Zugspitzbahn. Activities at the Knorrhütte include hiking, via ferrata, high tours, and climbing.
