KuFa and the Neighborhood - The first project of the Kulturfabrik Moabit for a lively neighborhood exchange (2014-2016). In light of the current social changes in Moabit East due to the construction of new residential and office complexes, the volunteers of Kulturfabrik Moabit recognized the need to develop offerings for good neighborhood interaction with the local residents. Thus, in July 2014, an innovative neighborhood project was initiated. After establishing initial solidarity structures, it was successfully completed in December 2016. The project aimed at residents of all ages and social and cultural backgrounds, particularly targeting those whose life situations were marked by limited participation in social life, such as the social consequences of long-term unemployment. The project participants oriented themselves around three principles: 1) alignment with the will of the local residents, 2) support for self-initiative and self-help, 3) cooperation with local non-profit organizations and associations. This led to the creation of valuable spaces where residents met to exchange ideas, produce culture and art, or simply celebrate together. The neighborhood festivals that emerged have become a fixed part of the local culture.
