Nationwide seven-day incidence rises slightly

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has now reported a slight increase in the nationwide seven-day incidence after several days of decline. The RKI gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Thursday morning with 1174.1. The previous day, the figure had been 1171.9. A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 1265.0 (previous month: 1283.2).

Health offices in Germany reported 210,673 new Corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is according to figures published by the RKI on its online site. A week ago, there were 216,322 infections.

Experts assume a high number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data. One reason is the limited capacities of health offices, for example; contacts are often only followed up to a limited extent. In addition, the laboratory association ALM estimates that there are now a larger number of people whose infection is no longer confirmed by a PCR test - these infections are therefore not included in the official statistics.

Across Germany, 267 deaths were recorded within 24 hours, according to the new data. A week ago, there were 243 deaths. The RKI counted 15,264,297 confirmed infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the start of the pandemic, but the actual total is likely to be significantly higher because many infections go undetected.

The number of Corona-infected patients arriving at hospitals per 100,000 population over a seven-day period was reported Wednesday by the RKI as 6.14, up from 5.93 Tuesday. This includes many people with positive Corona tests who have another primary illness.

The number of people who died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 123,505.
