Major Disruption on Munich's Main S-Bahn Route: Updated Train Status
Travelers planning to utilize Munich's S-Bahn network today are advised to brace themselves for considerable delays and potential cancellations. Repair works on the main line have necessitated significant adjustments to the train schedule, with the issue expected to persist until the overnight hours.
The disruption stems from damage to a crucial switch component, prompting Deutsche Bahn to initiate repair efforts. The complexity of the replacement process means that it can only be undertaken during the nighttime hours. Despite the ongoing repairs, some S-Bahn lines have resumed operations along the main route in both directions.
The disruption has severely impacted S-Bahn traffic between Pasing and Ostbahnhof, resulting in reduced capacity and slower speeds along critical sections of the main line. As a result, commuters are advised to anticipate delays of up to 10 minutes on operational routes. To mitigate inconvenience, DB tickets will also be valid for travel on MVG services (subway, bus, tram) for the duration of the disruption.
As of now, the following S-Bahn lines have resumed service along the main route in both directions: S2, S3, S6, S7, and S8. However, certain lines remain affected by the disruption. Specifically, the S1, S4, S20, and 10-minute interval trains have experienced alterations to their schedules:
- S1 services will commence and terminate at Moosach.
- S4 trains will only operate between the main station and other designated stations.
- The 10-minute interval trains and the S20 line will be canceled during the afternoon hours.
