Largest Agri-PV Facility Opens in Bodensdorf, Austria

In a significant development for renewable energy, the Raiffeisen Ware Austria (RWA) has inaugurated the largest Agri-Photovoltaic (Agri-PV) facility in the German-speaking region, located in Bodensdorf. This innovative project, situated above a blueberry field owned by the Wurzer family, spans nearly two hectares and features an impressive array of 4,764 photovoltaic modules.

The newly installed solar panels are expected to generate approximately 1.7 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to power around 570 households. This initiative not only contributes to the local energy supply but also demonstrates a successful integration of agriculture and renewable energy.

Under the protective canopy of the photovoltaic panels, the facility supports the growth of approximately 2,000 blueberry plants, 800 raspberry plants, and 160 blackberry plants. The design of the Agri-PV system offers a controlled environment for these berries, safeguarding them against extreme weather conditions such as heavy rainfall, hail, frost, storms, and excessive heat.

This project highlights the potential of Agri-PV systems to enhance agricultural productivity while simultaneously contributing to sustainable energy goals. By utilizing land for both agricultural and energy production purposes, the facility exemplifies a practical approach to addressing the dual challenges of food security and renewable energy generation.

The opening ceremony was attended by project leaders from RWA, the Wurzer family, and local politicians, all of whom expressed pride in the successful realization of this innovative project. They underscored the importance of sustainable practices in agriculture and energy, emphasizing that such initiatives are essential for the future.
