Elon Musk Poised to Become World's First Trillionaire, Says Forbes

Wed 11th Mar, 2026

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and founder of SpaceX, is on track to become the world's first trillionaire, according to recent estimates by Forbes magazine. The 40th annual Forbes list of global billionaires places Musk at the top for the second consecutive year, with a net worth estimated at $839 billion (approximately EUR720.7 billion). Musk is currently the only individual to surpass the $800 billion mark in personal wealth.

This significant increase in Musk's net worth--over $500 billion more than the previous year--is largely attributed to the surging value of SpaceX. The private space exploration company, established by Musk, is reportedly planning to go public within the year, a move anticipated to further elevate his financial standing.

Trailing Musk by a considerable margin is Larry Page, the co-founder of Google, with an estimated net worth of $257 billion. Sergey Brin, another Google co-founder, holds third place with $237 billion. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is in fourth position with $224 billion, followed closely by Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive of Meta and founder of Facebook, whose net worth stands at $222 billion.

The rise in billionaire fortunes has been notably driven by the rapid expansion of technology markets. A surge in artificial intelligence and related technology stocks has played a pivotal role in this wealth accumulation, with Forbes editors highlighting that, on average, more than one new billionaire was added worldwide each day over the past year.

Within Germany, Dieter Schwarz is recognized as the wealthiest individual. As the founder and owner of the Schwarz Group, which operates the Lidl discount chain and Kaufland supermarkets, Schwarz commands an estimated fortune of $67.2 billion, placing him 29th globally. His recent ventures into the IT sector have further contributed to his wealth.

Klaus Michael Kühne follows on the list of Germany's richest, holding the 47th position worldwide with a net worth of $41.9 billion. Kühne is the majority shareholder of the international logistics company Kühne + Nagel, maintains significant stakes in shipping company Hapag-Lloyd, and is a major investor in Lufthansa.

Reinhold Würth ranks as the third wealthiest German, occupying the 75th spot globally with an estimated $30.1 billion. Würth transformed his family's small business into the globally operating Würth Group, a leader in fastening and assembly materials.

The Quandt family, renowned for their major shareholdings in BMW, also features prominently in the top 100. Stefan Quandt shares the 75th position with Würth, while his sister Susanne Klatten holds the 79th spot, owning a significant stake in BMW and full ownership of specialty chemicals firm Altana.

The latest Forbes rankings underscore the unprecedented acceleration of wealth among the world's technology entrepreneurs and business owners, a trend fueled by ongoing innovations and market confidence in artificial intelligence and high-tech industries.
