Emergency services in Waidhofen/Thaya responded to a potentially dangerous situation at a local shopping center, where a two-year-old child was inadvertently locked inside a parked vehicle during warm weather conditions. The incident occurred midday when authorities were alerted to the presence of a young child inside a locked Volkswagen Polo with the car keys reportedly left inside the vehicle.

Upon receiving the alert, police officers coordinated with the local fire department, knowing that several firefighters were available at the nearby fire station. While on route, the police contacted the fire chief to request immediate assistance. The fire department's emergency response vehicle promptly arrived at the shopping center's parking lot.

At the scene, responders found the child secured in a car seat on the back seat of the locked vehicle. Efforts were initially made to unlock the doors using specialized tools designed for such situations, but a technical malfunction prevented the doors from being opened. Concurrently, police officers accompanied the vehicle owner to her residence to retrieve a spare key, as the original key could not immediately be located within the car.

Despite these challenges, firefighters utilized a specialized mechanism to lower one of the rear windows. This enabled a firefighter to carefully enter the vehicle, unbuckle the child from the car seat, and pass the child safely to the waiting mother. The child was assessed at the scene and found to be unharmed. Rescue personnel provided the child with cool water to ensure comfort after the ordeal.

Subsequent inspection of the vehicle revealed the missing car key near the child's car seat. The key was retrieved, and the vehicle was unlocked, bringing the incident to a safe conclusion. Emergency crews were able to complete the operation within approximately 40 minutes, after which all responders returned to their respective stations.

This event underscores the importance of coordinated emergency response and community awareness, particularly during warmer months when temperatures inside vehicles can rise rapidly. Authorities continue to remind caregivers to remain vigilant and to avoid leaving children unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, as such situations can quickly become life-threatening.
